NHS SBS is the largest provider of Family Health Services (FHS) to the NHS in England; the scope of the services provided under Family Health Services are back-office administrative support services designed to support primary care providers e.g GP practices, dental practices, community pharmacies and high street optometrists. The services provided under Family Health Services are:
- Patient registration - we receive and process registration information from GP practices so that individuals can be registered on the national system with their chosen GP. We create and send a physical Medical Record Envelope to their chosen GP so that the GP can maintain a hard copy of their medical history. We also print and despatch a Medical Card to the registered individual so that they can easily reference their NHS number.
- Medical Records Management - when an individual changes GP, we request their physical Medical Record Envelope (MRE) from their current GP so that we can process the change and manage the shipment of their physical Medical Record Envelope (MRE) to their new GP.
- Call/Recall for Screening - the NHS provides a number of cancer screening programmes to individuals registered with a GP; the most common screening programmes are cervical and breast although there are more. We manage the process of sending invitation letters and results letters to individuals who take part in these programmes; we produce the initial list, we send the list to the GP to validate (the GP removes any individuals who it would be inappropriate to invite), on receipt of the confirmed list back from the GP we send invitation letters to the list of individuals. When we receive the results from the cytology laboratories, we send the result letters to the individuals ensuring that the letter is sent within 14 days of the test being completed.
- Performer List Applications & Contract Management - primary care providers (e.g GP practices, dental practices, community pharmacies and high street optometrists) are referred to as Performers; Performers need to apply and be approved to be included on a PCT Performer List before they can practice and provide services to a Primary Care Trust (PCT. We gather all the information and evidence required by the PCT as part of their Performer Application process; we forward the completed application pack to the PCT to approve or reject.
- Payment Processing - primary care providers (e.g GP practices, dental practices, community pharmacies and high street optometrists) known as Performers provide services to patients and as such are entitled to payment for those services in accordance with the contract between them and the Primary Care Trust. We calculate the amount that they should be paid, agree the amount with the PCT and then facilitate the payment.
The services provided are business to business (B2B) and should be invisible to members of the public who access NHS primary care services provided by primary care providers (e.g GP practices, dental practices, community pharmacies and high street optometrists) known as Performers.
