Happy Birthday NHS
The NHS is 70! It's the perfect opportunity to celebrate the achievements of one of the nation's most loved institutions, to appreciate the vital role the service plays in our lives, and to recognise and thank the extraordinary NHS staff who are always there to greet, advise, and care for us.
As part of the NHS family and a dedicated partner to the service for over 15 years, here at NHS Shared Business Services we are keen to mark this milestone and to celebrate and share our memories of the NHS over the years. We know that many of you have contributed to the success of the NHS for a great number of years, even before the launch of our joint venture with Sopra Steria in 2005.
We had various events and activities going on across all our sites, from games to Garden Parties and cakes to 40s styled lunch menus. In total, NHS SBS raised £3,500 for our chosen charities, keep reading for more details on this, and how we celebrated.
NHS big 7tea
All our sites have decided to adopt the NHS tea party theme and we have put out requests for bakers and servers. But this will be more than just a regular brew. On and around 5 July, people up and down the country will get together to raise a cuppa to our beloved NHS and raise funds for NHS charities, and of course we, NHS SBS, will also be getting involved by hosting local celebrations at all of our sites!
Our chosen NHS charities
Each of our sites chose to support a different charity and held raffles, quizzes and much more in order to raise funds for these charities. In total, NHS SBS raised £3,500 pounds for these charities:
Sheffield - The Sheffield Hospitals Charity supporting your local doctors and nurses to provide the best medical care possible, to help make patients feel even better.
Bristol - South Western Ambulance Service Charity raised funds to benefit those in our communities using our service and improve the welfare of Trust staff and volunteers.
Southampton - South Central Ambulance Charity working across Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire to support South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust with state-of-the-art equipment, research, training and innovation.
Leeds - The Bradford Hospital Charity raised vital funds to improve patient experience in many ways to buy life-saving equipment, support medical research and training.
Salford - The Christie Charity raised funds to provide treatments and care above and beyond what the NHS is able to provide ensuring patients have the best possible outcomes.
One of the key objectives of the NHS 70th birthday celebrations is to encourage people to support the NHS by giving blood and joining the organ donor register.
We have been liaising with the NHS Blood and Transport Team for all of us here at NHS SBS to get involved.
