NHS SBS appoints new Transformation Director
NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) has appointed David Shields as its new Transformation Director.
David will help NHS SBS deliver a number of key strategic initiatives, which support the ongoing digital transformation and improved efficiency of corporate services across the NHS.
Bringing a wealth of public and private sector experience to his new role, David has previously delivered major transformation programmes for both the UK and US governments. He has also held leadership positions across a wide range of industries, including financial services, aviation, manufacturing and BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) service sectors.
David’s last role in the public sector was as Managing Director of Government Procurement Services (now known as the Crown Commercial Service), where he led a two-year transformation programme that delivered over £5bn savings for the UK taxpayer.
Since then he has managed a number of transformation programmes, including supporting the US Federal Government in implementing enhanced procurement capabilities.
Following his appointment to the NHS SBS executive management team, David will support the organisation’s focus on expanding its capability to provide value-for-money solutions to the NHS, which optimise new digital innovations and deliver an enhanced NHS user experience.
Erika Bannerman, NHS SBS Managing Director, said:
“I am pleased that David has accepted this role supporting me and NHS SBS in delivering high-quality services and solutions to the NHS – particularly important during such uniquely challenging times.
“David brings exceptional public and private sector experience and has supported numerous transformation programmes across the world. I look forward to seeing how his experience and expertise can significantly benefit the NHS.”
