Introduction from David Morris
Welcome to the Winter edition of our newsletter.
Another year is almost over! Whenever I wish NHS colleagues a happy Christmas and new year, I'm always acutely aware that the festive season is a double-edged sword for many. Winter pressures and staffing issues tend to combine with the looming financial year end to increase stress levels throughout the health service.
One of our guiding motivations at NHS Shared Business Services is to make sure that our services reduce your stress levels, not add to them. You can read many examples in this newsletter.
Our new NHS procurement platform, The Edge4Health, is now being used by a number of trusts across the country, and roll-out will accelerate in the new year. Uniquely, The Edge4Health provides a consumer-style experience for NHS requisitioners, meaning the platform feels instantly familiar, and can be used with minimal training. And, as catalogues are uploaded and maintained by suppliers, the number of invoice queries and discrepancies drops dramatically.
Staying with procurement, our portfolio of framework agreements has continued to expand over the past six months, with contracts for Cloud Solutions and Design, Furniture and Appliances now available, amongst others. Like all our framework agreements, these are free to access, offer significant savings, and allow for a direct award if wished.
Our payroll service has been welcomed by two of London's most well-known NHS trusts - Moorfields Eye Hospital and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. We were delighted and humbled to hear that Sally Dibben, Head of Human Resources at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, feels that moving to our service is "one of the best things" the trust has done.
The last few weeks seem to have brought with them a plethora of awards for our colleagues. At the Health Care Supply Association (HCSA) awards last month, our people and services were shortlisted for no less than six awards. We've also had shortlist success for the HFMA and Health Business Awards.
Finally, if the stresses of the festive season become too much, the blog from our director of finance and accounting, Stephen Sutcliffe, might just give you some hints for coping - both at home and at work.
Wishing you a wonderful festive season and a very happy new year.
Managing Director, NHS Shared Business Services
