Exit Interview Service helps reduce employee turnover at Solent NHS Trust
Our recently-launched Exit Interview Service is a great example of how we are working side by side with other NHS organisations to develop solutions to the everyday challenges you face.
By working closely with Solent NHS Trust to design and pilot a new Exit Interview Service, we are now able to help other NHS providers reduce staff turnover.
Instead of a one-size-fits-all questionnaire via ESR, leavers are offered a comprehensive telephone interview with an independent HR specialist from NHS SBS.
Bespoke reports then capture data for statistical analysis and qualitative information to inform an organisation's decision making.
The four month pilot at Solent NHS Trust led to a marked increase in the number of leavers engaging with the exit interview process - 75 per cent compared with just one in three previously.
And with the narrative 'reasons for leaving' uncovering trends and highlighting issues in specific areas, the Trust was able to increase nursing staff retention - surpassing the Model Hospital national average by October last year.
Ceri Connor, the Trust's Associate Director of People and Organisational Development, said:
"The impartial and anonymous nature of the NHS SBS process was a key element of the success of the pilot. People feel more able to give the real reasons why they are leaving and aren't limited to providing just one, as they are with ESR. So, for us, the data becomes far more meaningful, revealing and reliable.
"The Exit Interview Service has enabled us to provide board level assurance that we are doing the right things."
