Opening up opportunities at NHS Shared Business Services

At NHS Shared Business Services, we have been working with DFN Project Search and Lighthouse Futures Trust to support four young people with work placements, based in our Leeds office.  The young people have learning disabilities and autistic spectrum conditions and this partnership forms part of our wider Social Value Programme demonstrating our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

We have committed to support young people with disabilities experience work at NHS SBS in line with NHS targets to improve the recruitment, retention, progression, development and experience of those in under-represented groups. Our four students for this year have supported our teams by assisting in our post room, our IT team and in our finance and accounting department.

The interns have been embedded within the teams learning about different roles and functions within the business, while developing general employability skills with our learning partner Lighthouse Futures Trust to enable them to progress in their careers.

The programme not only provides opportunities for young people, but also provides inclusivity training for the teams that have hosted interns, helping them to create inclusive environments for everyone who works for us.

“DFN Project Search is a fantastic organisation that supports young people with disabilities find work experience and placements. At NHS SBS, as part of our wider Social Value commitments, we are dedicated to supporting opportunities for those with disabilities to create a diverse and inclusive workforce. We are delighted to partner with DFN Project Search to support us in this commitment.”
