Linen and laundry services ensure that hospitals have clean uniforms for staff, and that the linen is cleaned and decontaminated effectively in accordance with HTM 01-04 standards to ensure appropriate infection control and patient safety.
It’s been reported that the NHS loses around 4 million pieces of linen each year, which is more than 80% of the total linen used, including bed sheets, pillowcases, and surgical gowns. The yearly loss of linen is not only costing the NHS money but is also equivalent to 7,600 tonnes of carbon.
The Linen and Laundry Framework Agreement focuses on reducing road miles, energy reduction, water usage, chemical use and the repairing and recycling of old linen, supporting the NHS to reach its goal of net zero, and enabling the safe reuse of linen for cost efficiencies.
The framework agreement ensures compliance with BS EN 14065 – Textiles – Laundry Processed Textiles – Biocontamination Control System; HTM 01-04 – Decontamination of Linen for Health and Social Care – Social Care and more.
