Our Futureproofing the NHS roundtable series brought together leaders from across the NHS, government, policy and industry to explore the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of health and care.
Across four discussions, participants examined digital transformation, data and interoperability, the future of shared services, and the operational challenges facing NHS organisations. The insights gathered helped inform our wider analysis and recommendations on the operational foundations needed to support innovation, productivity and long-term NHS reform.

The NHS of tomorrow: Embedding shared services for lasting transformation
The 10 Year Health Plan commits to making the NHS “the world’s most collaborative public healthcare provider.”
But how do we turn collaboration from aspiration into reality? The Health Foundation’s NHS Productivity Commission set out a framework identifying workforce, capital, technology and transformation as the four drivers of productivity growth. Shared services sit at the intersection of all four and embedding them calls for genuine co-creation and collaboration.
When organisations work together on corporate services (including finance, procurement, payroll, and workforce systems), they achieve gains that none could deliver alone. However, these successes remain unevenly spread. In this webinar – the fourth and final in the Futureproofing the NHS series – our panel explore what it takes to embed shared services for lasting impact over the next decade and beyond.

Data as infrastructure: The foundation for NHS transformation
The government’s 10‑Year Health Plan pledges £600 million to a Health Data Research Service and positions the NHS as “the most AI‑enabled health system in the world.” Yet while clinical data dominates headlines, operational data already flows through the NHS at scale, revealing hidden savings, predicting workforce pressures, and exposing inefficiencies that clinical datasets often miss.
This webinar explored how operational intelligence can unlock better care, stronger retention, and greater efficiency and asked what data infrastructure, governance, and automation the NHS truly needs to deliver on its digital promises.
