How the UK Public Sector Can Decarbonise its Estates

Rising energy costs, ageing buildings and mounting environmental pressures mean public sector estates must act now to transition to a Net Zero future. Our blog from Senior Category Manager Anjub Ali, explores practical steps organisations can take to modernise their facilities – covering heating upgrades, insulation, low carbon technologies and sustainable procurement routes.

Spotlight on Sustainable Transport and Infrastructure: Supporting Sustainable Travel

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) is transforming active travel across its estates with three modern FalcoHub cycle hubs. Installed through the Sustainable Transport and Infrastructure Framework Agreement, the hubs support greener commuting, improve staff and patient wellbeing, and help reduce pressure on car parks.

At a glance:

  • Three hubs installed across Ipswich & Colchester
  • 128 spaces at Colchester and 144 spaces per hub at Ipswich
  • 339 registered users across both sites
  • 6 week installation programme for all hubs
  • Smartphone controlled access replacing keys, fobs and cards

Falco provided a full turnkey solution – from site surveys and CAD layouts to fabrication, installation, access control, lighting and finishes – all coming in under budget while ensuring minimal disruption to busy hospital.

Good communication is not a “nice to have,” but a critical component of safe, person‑centred care.
